Perfect smiles rarely occur naturally. Most people you see with straight, white smiles have undergone some type of dental procedure to get that perfect smile. Orthodontics and cosmetic dental services are behind many of the smiles you see on the cover of magazines, but one procedure is used to transform smiles almost overnight – porcelain veneers.
Your Dream Smile Is Within Reach
Dental Veneers 101
While orthodontic and other dental procedures can fix crooked, stained or gapped teeth, these services can also take months or even years to complete. What if you could have a new smile in just a few weeks and a couple of visits to Royal Oak Family Dental? You can, with porcelain veneers. This cosmetic dental application covers your dental flaws behind a perfect façade of porcelain, giving you a smile makeover in as little as two weeks.
Dental veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are created to fit over the front of your teeth. Each tooth gets a single veneer that is adhered to the tooth’s surface. These cosmetic shields for your teeth are designed to create the smile you always wanted, hiding gaps, chipped or crooked teeth, stains and other flaws behind their exterior.
The Veneers Process
The procedure involves designing your smile and preparing your teeth for the veneer application. Once the shape and size of the veneers are determined, the specifications are sent to the dental lab for creation. You will need a small amount of enamel removed when the veneers will be placed. Once the porcelain veneers come back from the dental lab, they are all adhered the same day. You will walk in that day with one smile and walk out with your smile makeover.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the post-process care like after I get my veneers?
One of the benefits of veneers is that you can care for them like you would your natural teeth! Just remember to brush twice daily for two minutes each and floss daily to ensure that cavities don’t form beneath the porcelain shells.
What makes porcelain veneers different from composite or other types of veneers?
The main difference between traditional porcelain veneers and other types of veneers such as CEREC® veneers and Lumineers®, is mainly the process. With porcelain veneers, a layer of enamel needs to be removed for the veneers to sit flush next to your existing teeth and the process usually takes a few appointments. CEREC veneers can be fabricated in-house in one dental visit and Lumineers are thin so they don’t require any enamel removal. There are many types of veneers and we’ll make sure to go over your options and their specifics during your consultation.
When should I get veneers over another cosmetic procedure?
Every patient is different and there are many things to consider when choosing a cosmetic treatment, including lifestyle, budget, oral health, and more. At your consultation, we will discuss your smile goals and concerns, assess your oral health and dental needs, and come up with a cosmetic treatment plan that meets all of your criteria to help you achieve your ideal smile.
